This Week in Brand Journalism Jobs: Your Next Reporting Job Might Be at a Credit Card Company

Written by Madeline Stone | Oct 6, 2026, 1:15:00 PM

This week's job roundup yielded a number of new editorial roles at large, established companies.

Cigna, Cisco, and Workday are all hiring people to level up their content strategies. The Cigna role is particularly noteworthy — the health company is looking for a director to lead its owned external content strategy across three newsrooms, and it lists brand journalism experience among its core qualifications.

The Cigna job responsibilities are likely familiar to anyone who has previously worked in a digital newsroom. This person will set "clear criteria for what should be published, where it should appear, and how it should be activated beyond the Newsroom" while maintaining accuracy, clarity, and credibility. But there's also an element that's new for the AI age. Cigna's new director will also establish standards for SEO, AEO, and GEO so that "enterprise content is readily discoverable and understandable across traditional search and AI-powered platforms."

And Cigna isn't the only one. Datadog is also hiring a specialist who will focus on structuring content to be surfaced and cited in AI answers as well as in traditional search.

This week's job list also includes a handful of companies that are explicitly hiring journalists.

Fintech company Imprint is hiring a senior data journalist to "independently mine Imprint's payments, merchant, and card member data to surface stories that are credible, data-driven, and genuinely interesting, not promotional."

Private market research company PitchBook (a subsidiary of Morningstar) is looking for a senior editor to own its Daily Pitch newsletter. And entrepreneurship network Endeavor is hiring a researcher and writer to report, conduct interviews, and develop stories for its new original podcast.

Each of these could be considered a reporting role under a different title. Former journalists looking to transition into the brand editorial world should think about how they can frame their reporting skills as having made an impact on the business.

Know a role we missed? Send it our way, and it could make next week's list.

We'll see you back here next week with another roundup of brand journalism jobs.

How We Built This List

Every week, we pull job postings looking for senior editorial and content-leadership roles: editorial directors, VPs and heads of content, managing editors, storytellers, data journalists, and similar titles. We prioritize those paying $100,000 or more.
