Neil Paine

Neil Paine has been a professional sports writer for 15 years, most recently serving as Sports Editor for Nate Silver's FiveThirtyEight site. During his 9 years with FiveThirtyEight, he wrote nearly 2,000 stories, helped create nearly all of the sports forecasting models on the site, and was a co-creator of the RAPTOR NBA player rating. Before joining FiveThirtyEight, he wrote for ESPN, The New York Times, and Sports Illustrated, was an analytics consultant for the Atlanta Hawks, and worked for the Sports-Reference family of websites. Every summer, he lectures at Penn's Wharton School Moneyball Academy, helping teach data journalism skills to high school students.
