It's the kind of carnival game that cost next to nothing to play and almost never paid off (which never seemed to stop anyone from trying).

Judging by the shopping bags, this band trip included plenty of time for souvenir hunting. The group stopped for a photo before moving on, dressed in the wonderfully practical vacation uniform of 1982: short shorts, striped socks, and a truly impressive selection of hats.

An older woman stops for a chat with a group of punks whose towering mohawks could probably be spotted from the next block. Whatever brought these two worlds together, everyone seems remarkably casual about the encounter, and that's what makes the photo so good.
