Bankhead National Forest, Alabama
Parker Falls in Alabama's Bankhead National Forest.

Sweater weather, shorter days, and pumpkin-spiced everything can only mean one thing—fall has officially arrived. While the season's traditional activities include apple picking and leaf peeping, those of us who long to see changing leaves know that climate change has shifted expectations a bit. In New England, typically a top-tier destination for fall foliage, drought conditions led to less vibrant colors and early shedding in 2025. Not to worry, though—the show still goes on in parts of the Midwest, especially Michigan, named one of the best places for leaf-peeping in the U.S. by Travel + Leisure.
If you do decide to venture out in search of the perfect fall sights, you certainly won't be alone. Every autumn, droves of tourists descend on destinations like Vermont's Green Mountains or the Blue Ridge Parkway in the Southeast to catch a glimpse of the leaves changing color. Leaf peeping continues to grow in popularity, and Airbnb reported in September 2025 that the season's most-booked destinations tend to center around enjoying the fall foliage.
However, this practice can have its downsides—bustling hiking trails, traffic jams on rural roads, and throngs of unprepared visitors, to name a few. For those who would rather skip the crowds, Stacker has compiled a collection of 50 colorful, glorious photos of the season in every state. From national parks and forests to rambling vistas and tree-lined streets, keep reading to see beautiful fall photos from your state.
