How gas prices have changed in Mount Vernon in the last week

Drivers are seeing the lowest end-of-summer gas prices since 2021. The national average for a gallon of gasoline sat nearly 50 cents below its year-ago levels this Labor Day weekend.

Drivers could soon experience more relief as gas stations are expected to switch over to cheaper winter weather fuel blends this month.

"As long as we don't see a major hurricane head into the Gulf and the situation improves in the Middle East, the national average could fall below $3 in the next two months," GasBuddy analyst Patrick De Haan said in a statement Tuesday.

Consumers haven't seen the national average gas price fall below $3 since 2021, according to AAA data.
