Most popular TV shows on Netflix last week

Looking at the latest list of the most-watched TV shows on Netflix, it's clear that subscribers were hungry for a particular period piece romance show exclusive to the streaming service.

All three seasons of "Bridgerton," produced by Shonda Rhimes's Shondaland, are on the charts, as viewers were most likely catching up and refreshing their memories before the third season began. The first four episodes of Season 3 came out on May 16 and the remaining four will debut on June 13. Following the members of the titular family in the Regency era of British history, each season of the series has focused on a different Bridgerton child's quest to find their spouse. The first centered on eldest daughter Daphne Bridgerton (Phoebe Dynevor) and her steamy romance with Simon Basset (Regé-Jean Page), while the second was about the tension-filled love triangle between oldest son Anthony Bridgerton (Jonathan Bailey) and the Sharma sisters, Kate (Simone Ashley) and Edwina (Charithra Chandran).

Now, Season 3 centers on middle son Colin Bridgerton (Luke Newton) and fan favorite Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan). As is typical for the highly viewed show, there are plenty of sexy scenes, including one heavily talked-about sequence in a carriage with an instrumental cover of Pitbull's "Give Me Everything" in the background.

A different type of show about scandalous behavior is docudrama "Ashley Madison: Sex, Lies & Scandal," a three-part series that launched on May 15. The narrative follows the rise and fall of Ashley Madison, a dating service that visitors use to set up adulterous relationships. While successful after its 2002 launch, a data breach in 2015 exposed the identities of its large user base. The docuseries features interviews with people that the data breach affected directly, including some of the unfaithful men who used Ashley Madison.

Another docuseries climbing up the Netflix charts is the true crime show "Cooking Up Murder: Uncovering the Story of César Román." The three-part series, which came out on May 10, follows the aftermath of the murder of a woman named Heydi Paz. The main suspect: her then-partner César Román, a celebrity chef. The show chronicles the rise of Román's restaurant empire and his subsequent arrest for Paz's murder. Although Román maintained his innocence, the evidence—which the documentary goes over—paints a damning picture.

See what else joined the massively popular "Bridgerton" and a pair of docuseries on the list Stacker compiled of the most watched shows on Netflix from May 13-19.
