Most popular TV shows on Netflix last week

The latest list of most-watched series on Netflix has a pair of shows focused on characters investigating potential crimes.

First up is CBS's supernatural procedural show "Evil," which follows a trio of people with different backgrounds and ideologies investigating unusual incidents. Starring Katja Herbers as a forensic psychologist, Mike Colter as a former journalist studying to become a Catholic priest, and Aasif Mandvi as a technology expert, the three begin to find sinister throughlines between all of their cases. The first season of "Evil" aired on CBS in 2019 and then, starting with its second season, the show moved to the CBS streaming service, Paramount+. Its fourth and final season will stream on Paramount+ later this year, but if you don't have that streaming service, no problem—the first two seasons of "Evil" landed on Netflix on April 30, with many viewers discovering it for the first time.

Next up is a darkly comedic spin on investigative fiction: "Bodkin," a seven-episode Netflix original series starring Will Forte, that premiered on May 9 and has been drawing comparisons to Hulu's "Only Murders in the Building." Produced by Barack and Michelle Obama's company Higher Ground, the thriller follows Forte as one of three podcasters traveling to the eponymous Irish small town to investigate mysterious disappearances that occurred there a quarter century ago. But, as is often the case with these types of stories, the amateur sleuths find something darker and deeper within this idyllic community. "Bodkin" was an opportunity for the creators to celebrate Irish culture, even if the town itself is fictional.

As a break from intense investigations, the 2000s sitcom "Reba" is providing some comedic respite. The sitcom stars singer and actor Reba McEntire as a divorced mother trying to get through life as her family falls apart around her (or, as the theme song famously states, "a single mom who works too hard, who loves her kids and never stops"). The TV version of Reba is dealing with two new babies in mid-life: that of her ex-husband, Brock, a dentist who had an affair with his hygienist, while Brock and Reba's 17-year-old daughter is also pregnant. Originally airing on The WB network, the sitcom moved to The CW when The WB merged with UPN in 2006. The show ran for six seasons total, all of which dropped on Netflix on May 6
