Having been one of Hulu's most popular films for several weeks, "The Creator" has proved how vital streaming services are for the success of original movies. Directed and written by Gareth Edwards, the post-apocalyptic sci-fi action film is set in the not-so-distant future, in a world where humans are at war with artificial intelligence. John David Washington stars as protagonist Joshua while Madeleine Yuna Voyles, Allison Janney, and Gemma Chan round out the cast. The film, which is a rare original story with no connection to a bigger franchise or IP, underperformed at the box office during its opening weekend. But, as evidenced by its ongoing popularity on Hulu, the film has gained a significant audience over time. It was nominated for Best Sound and Best Visual Effects at the 2024 Oscars.
"Ocean's 11" has joined the list this week, just about 23 years after its initial release in 2001. The film follows an eclectic team of professional thieves as they plot to rob one of the biggest casinos in Las Vegas. It stars a number of big names, including George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Julia Roberts, and Matt Damon. Steven Soderbergh directs the stylish film, which is a remake of an equally stylish predecessor starring Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, and Sammy Davis Jr. from 1960.
