New releases on Netflix this week

Though it keeps adding fresh content to its streaming library, Netflix has remained dedicated to showcasing work from some of Hollywood's biggest stars. This week, the streamer is set to drop projects from a pair of television industry titans—comedian Jerry Seinfeld and writer-producer David E. Kelly—in addition to a variety of comedy specials, reality shows, movies, and international series. To get you prepared, Stacker compiled a list of Netflix's 19 new releases debuting between April 29 and May 5 that promise a healthy dose of humor and suspense.

Looking for a tasty treat? Seinfeld might put you in the mood for one, at least. The comedian writes, directs, and stars in "Unfrosted: The Pop-Tart Story" (premiering on Netflix on May 3), about the race between rival cereal companies Post and Kellogg's to create a game-changing toasted breakfast pastry. Set in Battle Creek, Michigan, in 1963, Seinfeld's directorial debut doesn't come with jelly but it is filled with an all-star cast of comics, including Melissa McCarthy, Jim Gaffigan, Amy Schumer, and Fred Armisen. The film also sees Hugh Grant continue his reign as a colorful caricature (see: "Wonka"), this time donning stripes to play a Tony the Tiger mascot. It seems like a "grrrreat" time.

For something more serious, there's "A Man in Full," Netflix's latest play at a prestige miniseries that boasts a few heavy hitters. That starts with Kelly, jumping away from HBO where he made a recent string of hit shows ("Big Little Lies," "The Undoing," and "Love & Death") to take on writing, producing, and showrunning duties. The tense six-episode drama, which premieres on May 2, stars Jeff Daniels as an Atlanta real estate tycoon facing bankruptcy and a host of other troubles as he attempts to keep his crumbling empire afloat. With Kelly and Oscar-winner Regina King splitting directing duties, and a stacked cast that includes Diane Lane and Lucy Liu, this adaptation of Tom Wolfe's 1998 eponymous novel looks like another hit for Kelly.

That's only a pair of Netflix's high-profile offerings this week. To see the rest (including the roast of a former elite NFL quarterback), read on for the full list.
