Cata Holmes

Cata is a writer at Stacker, where she covers culture, travel, history, and the shifts, big and small, that shape American life. Her work moves between data-driven reporting, archival research, and cultural trends, but she has a soft spot for stories about the past and all the wonderful and weird things people once considered normal.

She especially loves topics that involve digging through old photos, rediscovering forgotten trends, and understanding how everyday life has changed over the years: which things we left behind without a second thought, and which ones are still around us. Give her a good archive and some nostalgia, and she’ll happily disappear down the rabbit hole.

When she’s away from the keyboard, she’s most likely thinking about or planning her next trip. She loves the mountains just as much as the beach, although the latter usually comes with a run along the shore. Her bookshelves lean heavily toward romance novels, and she dreams of writing one of her own someday. Meanwhile, she’s learning French, identifying the places she wants to visit next, and enjoying the challenge of picking up a new language.
