This Week in Brand Journalism Jobs: Reporters Are in High Demand

Brands are hiring journalists for marketing roles. See this week's storytelling job openings and how to position your reporting background.

This week's job roundup includes a number of storytelling roles that are specifically looking for their candidates to have journalism experience.

AI-powered healthcare automation platform Tennr is probably the clearest example of this trend. It's looking to hire a healthcare industry reporter and storyteller "with at least 3 years' experience at a newspaper, industry publication, or other media company." This person will use "journalistic curiosity" to speak to people in the healthcare industry and uncover interesting stories for the brand to tell.

"It's more like a reporting job with a focus on feature writing that just happens to be at a SaaS company," the job listing reads.

Deloitte wants to hire an executive editor with "deep journalistic experience." Agility Robotics wants their next Head of Editorial & Content to have a "reporter's instincts with high technical fluency." And AI-driven mortgage servicing company Valon lists journalism as one of several ideal backgrounds for its Narrative & Brand Lead role.

Though most of these roles would sit in the marketing department, there's a clear preference for candidates who think like journalists, treating their subject matter as an area to investigate and then framing stories in a way that appeals to their target audience.

The companies we found hiring this week are also demonstrating their commitment to storytelling with high compensation. Nearly all of the companies' ranges are above $200,000 at the top end, for titles that reflect leadership roles tasked with running a function or even building it from scratch.

If you come from a journalism background, think about strategically reframing your experience when applying for a storytelling or narrative role. Mastering a beat is comparable to building audience expertise, and reporting could be reframed as understanding signals amid noise. Since most of these roles call for building and maintaining a growth engine, be prepared to speak about how content and distribution lead to audience and revenue growth.

Know a role we missed? Send it our way, and it could make next week's list.

We'll see you back here next week with another roundup of brand journalism jobs.

How We Built This List

Every week, we pull job postings looking for senior editorial and content-leadership roles: editorial directors, VPs and heads of content, managing editors, storytellers, data journalists, and similar titles. We prioritize those paying $100,000 or more.

Madeline Stone is the Content Manager for Editorial & Insights at Stacker. She was previously a longtime business and tech journalist at Business Insider and a content and communications consultant for startups.
