This Week in Brand Journalism Jobs: Why AI-Native Companies Want Human Writers

AI-driven companies are hiring human writers to own their brand narratives, highlighting the need for authentic storytelling in a saturated landscape.

This week's jobs roundup shows that even the most AI-forward tech companies view human writing as a strategic edge.

For example, AI-native law firm Crosby is hiring "a 99th percentile writer" who can effectively reach its "99th percentile customers." It opens the job listing by mocking AI slop, saying that "LLMs can produce a lot of average writing" but that the company sells to "a lot of not-average people." In a world where AI-generated content is everywhere, companies need human storytellers to help them stand out.

Bain & Company is looking for an editor to work directly with partners to "shape and sharpen their ideas, challenging them to hone their insights and find the most compelling messages." The job listing specifically calls for AI fluency, saying that it's "essential" that candidates know how to use the technology "to accelerate every facet of that process while producing copy that reflects the genuine human voice of Bain's experts."

Meanwhile, digital identity verification company Trulioo wants someone with "experience knowing where AI helps content and where it flattens it into something forgettable." The Content & Narrative Lead the company is hiring should be able to turn company data into original research and reports that travel across channels and are compelling enough for journalists to cover.

Trulioo isn’t the only company using the word "narrative" to describe this type of marketing and communications work. GovWell, an AI platform for local governments, is hiring a Narrative and Content Lead to own storytelling across thought leadership, original data reports, trend analysis, and product stories.

Interestingly, most of the roles we found in this week's search are at the senior individual contributor level. The emphasis seems to be on having one strong writer (or a very small team of writers) own how brands show up everywhere.

And although the Flexport role is primarily a PR and communications role, it also calls for ownership of a content calendar and strategy and lists "strong editorial instincts" as a requirement. It reflects how the boundaries between communications and content are increasingly being blurred.

Know a role we missed? Send it our way, and it could make next week's list.

We'll see you back here next week with another roundup of brand journalism jobs.

How We Built This List

Every week, we pull job postings looking for senior editorial and content-leadership roles: editorial directors, VPs and heads of content, managing editors, storytellers, data journalists, and similar titles. We prioritize those paying $100,000 or more.

Madeline Stone is the Content Manager for Editorial & Insights at Stacker. She was previously a longtime business and tech journalist at Business Insider and a content and communications consultant for startups.
