How gas prices have changed in Bloomington in the last week

Hurricane Helene left a trail of disaster in its wake, destroying homes along the Florida coast on top of flooding communities and stressing dams in states like North Carolina.

Despite that, there's no evidence yet that the storm impacted gasoline production. The national average cost for a gallon of gas is nearly 15 cents lower than a month ago.

"Another week brings a mixed bag at the gas pump, with gas prices declining in slightly more than half of U.S. states while others have seen increases due to some refinery snags and maintenance that have emerged, temporarily delaying declines in some areas," GasBuddy analyst Patrick De Haan said in a statement Monday.

De Haan expects more states will see gas prices under $3 in the coming weeks once refineries wrap up their typical seasonal maintenance, which has some areas currently utilizing less of their refining capacity.
