Most popular movies on Apple TV+ this week

The summer blockbuster season is still a couple of months away, but it seems like the warmer weather is getting movie fans in the spirit of watching some box-office big shots. Case in point: Apple TV+'s most-watched movies list this week is filled with cinematic spectacles spanning from New York City to the open desert.

Classing up the list with its tuxedoed protagonists is "Men in Black," the classic 1997 alien action flick that imagines a world filled with slimy and scaly outer-space threats taking a bite out of the Big Apple. Luckily, agents Agent K (Tommy Lee Jones) and Agent J (Will Smith) are there to neutralize them, specifically an intergalactic bug that takes the shape of a human (Vincent D'Onofrio). Out of its many quirky pleasures, including the memory-fading neuralyzer, director Barry Sonnenfeld's summer hit is nothing without the teamwork and competing personalities of its leading men.

The same might be said for another popular Apple TV+ entry this week, director George Miller's "Mad Max: Fury Road." The 2015 film sees its titular character (Tom Hardy) team up with Furiosa (Charlize Theron) to jailbreak a harem of women from the villainous Immortan Joe (Hugh Keays-Byrne). Inside an armored war truck, the group attempts to outrun the tyrant's vehicular high-speed attacks throughout the Wasteland, an odyssey filled with breathtaking visuals and visceral set pieces. With its prequel, "Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga," due in theaters this May, it's no surprise the action epic is racking up streaming minutes.

Find out where these films and more rank on the list Stacker compiled of the most popular movies on Apple TV+ using data from Reelgood as of March 27, 2024. IMDb ratings and other data points were added for supplementary insights.
