The Highest Grossing Movies of 2018 (so far)
The 2018 movie season may still be underway, but it's already showing a marked improvement compared to last year—at least in terms of box office numbers. Powered by franchises, sequels, animated features and adaptations, Hollywood is simply raking in cash, and earning 8% more than it did in 2017. For those with blockbuster fatigue, all this might come as bad news, since it's films like "Avengers: Infinity War" and "Deadpool 2" that continue to dominate at the box office. For the Comic-Con crowd, however, there's never been a better time to go to the theaters. Plus, who's going to argue with the wild success of something like "The Incredibles 2" or "Black Panther"?
With the spirit of competition in the air, one may wonder what this year's highest grossing movies are so far. Stacker is here with the answer. Using data from The Numbers and Box Office Mojo, Stacker compiled a list of the highest grossing movies of 2018. It should be noted that these figures pertain to domestic box office numbers only, meaning worldwide ticket sales weren't taken into account. All movies released this year were considered and ranked according to box office performance. Counting down from #50, here are 2018's top grossing films (so far).

Like all Anderson films, this one utilizes a range of top acting talents (many of whom have previously worked with the director), including Bill Murray, Bryan Cranston, Scarlett Johansson, Frances McDormand, Greta Gerwig and Edward Norton, among others.

Does the premise sound eerily similar to “Non-Stop,” the 2014 plane-based action film also starring Neeson? Indeed it does, which might partially explain why many audiences decided to skip this ride.

While domestic box office earnings of more than $200 million are certainly nothing to scoff at, "Solo: A Star Wars Story" was undoubtedly a major disappointment for Disney; the studio sunk $300 million into the shooting budget alone. Trouble was on the horizon long before the movie even hit theaters, when original helmers Phil Lord and Chris Miller were fired during production and replaced by Ron Howard. Later, the movie opened to an overwhelming "meh" from audiences. Was it "Star Wars" fatigue? Peripheral fallout caused by "The Last Jedi"? Shoddy execution?
