Fastest-growing jobs in health care
If you're in the market for a new job, you may have noticed that the search has gotten tougher lately. It's not just you—job market reports don't paint a rosy picture, either. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the unemployment rate in August 2025 hit 4.3%, its highest rate in nearly four years. Job openings are trending downward as companies put the brakes on hiring new workers, and job cuts continue to go up. In the first 10 months of 2025, companies laid off nearly 1.1 million workers, a 65% increase from the same time period in 2024.
However, not every sector is struggling. In fact, some industries are more desperate for employees than ever. Health care is currently the largest employment sector in the job market, and even with a softening job market, demand for health care workers remains strong. Industry employment increased by 2.8% between August 2024 and 2025, compared to a 3% decrease in hirings across the labor market at large.
Hiring in health care is unlikely to slow down anytime soon, as demand for health services continues to rise. More people have access to care and use it, according to a July 2025 report from The New York Times. Plus, the nation's aging population also requires more extensive health care services.
These factors mean that anyone wishing to work in health care will probably find ample job opportunities for years to come. The BLS projects that every year through 2034, the industry will add 1.9 million new job openings that span a variety of careers, including nursing, physical therapy, and mental health roles.
For more details, Stacker ranked the top 50 fastest-growing jobs in health care, using 2024 data from the BLS Employment Projections. Occupations are ranked by percentage change in jobs between 2024 and 2034.
