100 best episodes of The Office

Based on a two-season British workplace comedy of the same name, "The Office" debuted in 2005 to somewhat lackluster ratings. It seemed destined to be as short as the sitcom it was based on. Fast forward a few years and the team at the floundering Dunder Mifflin paper company managed to keep viewers laughing, lasting for nine seasons before wrapping up with a heartfelt finale in 2013.

Since then, "The Office" has won over even more audiences via its years-long presence on Netflix, which came to an end in 2020 when the series moved to the Peacock+ platform. No matter where the show has lived, though, its popularity has carried on—so much so, in fact, that NBCUniversal picked up a spin-off of "The Office" in May 2024, starring Domhnall Gleeson and Sabrina Impacciatore.

With its memorable characters, cringe-worthy moments, and incredible writing (including so many quotable lines), "The Office" is known and remembered for so many great reasons. Sitcoms today take a page out of this show's book, whether they're trying to make people laugh or cry. Its mockumentary style has been mimicked by other popular shows like "Parks and Recreation" and "Modern Family."

Several of "The Office" stars, like B.J. Novak and Mindy Kaling, contributed their writing skills to the show, providing a unique way of keeping viewers involved in some of the wackier scenarios. Those who didn't enjoy the pranks and slapstick as much as its cult fans likely stayed for the storied romance between Jim and Pam (or perhaps Dwight and Angela). The show's signature shock and awe was typically delivered by Steve Carell, who famously portrayed Dunder Mifflin regional manager Michael Scott for the first seven seasons of "The Office."

With 201 episodes, "The Office" offers a little something for all its fans. Stacker used IMDb ratings to rank these stories from #100 to #1, as chosen by the viewers, to see which episodes had the most impact. You may notice that the more heartwarming episodes, rather than the funniest, make it closer to the top. Read on to see if your favorite episode made the list.
